After the action packed Inaugural Round JK Tyre Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2012 returns with Round Two

- For the first time ever a woman driver leads an Indian championship series


Coimbatore, July 26, 2012 - The season opener of the Polo R Cup 2012 saw a mix of action and drama at the Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore. History was made as drivers battling it out totake an early lead in this coveted championship saw the only female driver, Alisha Abdullah leading the pack with 45 points. Catching fast is Avdumber Hede at the second spot with a difference of only 2 points. Third and Fourth spots are very closely held by Mihir Dharkar and Prashanth Tharani Singh with 41 points and 40 points respectively.

Points system for the four categories this season:
JK Tyre Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2012 Championship Winner Points are given to all drivers of Indian nationality who are participating in the championship. Diego Duez, being a foreign driver, is not eligible for this category.
JK Tyre Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2012 Championship - Pro Driver standings Drivers of Indian nationality aged between 16 to 26 years and having experience of more than 8 races in any National Championship are eligible for this. Drivers not eligible for this category are Ameya Walvalkar as his age is above 26 and Diego Duez as he is a foreign driver.
JK Tyre Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2012 Championship - Junior Driver standings Drivers of Indian nationality aged between 16 to 26 years and not having raced more than 8 races in a National Championship come under this category. In case of a tie, qualifying positions are considered to rank them. This category includes drivers Mahinder Khidia, Hanoosh S, Yatin Magu, Siddharth Sharma and Tabish Khan.
Polo R Cup India 2012 – Overall standings In this category by Volkswagen, points are given to all the drivers participating in the season, regardless of age and nationality.


“I am very excited to lead the championship points after Round One. I adapted quickly to the new TSI Race Polo and it has paid off well. It is an ideal start for me and I hope to build up on this lead in Round Two”, said the only female driver in this championship, Alisha Abdullah.

“It is first time in Indian motorsports history that a female driver is leading a national championship. It will be interesting to watch what her strategy for this round will be. All drivers seem to be adjusting well to the new TSI Race Polo which shows in the close fight among the top five drivers. The other thing that I am looking forward to is the competition among new drivers. Now that they have some race experience, we might see some rookies climb up the championship ladder”, said Prithviraj Siddappa, Head ofVolkswagen Motorsport India. .
